“Ten years after Teresa Durá Branson’s final exhibition in May 2007, in her home town of Kirkcudbright, she finally put down her brushes. Now the paintings of the late Teresa Durá Branson, who passed away in 2016, are once again on display in the town.
The Tolbooth Art Centre is staging a retrospective exhibition of the Spanish born artist’s atmospheric work from May 3 to May 21. Most people will find that this Retrospective Exhibition is worth browsing around at their leisure.
Paintings by Teresa are kept in many private and public collections around the world, including the Gracefield Art Centre in Dumfries. Unlike many artists, Teresa Durá Branson was equally at home painting in oils, pastels, watercolours and mixed media.
In her work Teresa endeavoured to visually convey the emotions which nature inspired in all it’s moods. At times these moods were subtle and serene, and at others bold and dramatic, and often many of her works are imbued with a mystical and spiritual undercurrent. She was a visionary and a free thinker and embraced the gift of life, considering it to be a privilege.
Teresa’s legacy will live on through her many paintings”
